Hangin’ By A Thread, But Still In NFC Playoff Hunt
But Just barely.
After a less than inspired effort on the road at Seattle, the Arizona Cardinals dropped from being in the lead for the final Wild Card spot to 4th place, behind Minnesota, New Orleans and Washington.
Silver Lining? The Cards actually have a good chance to climb back to the top, but we need just a little bit of luck. Here’s the rundown:
1. The Cards final three games are (in this order): @ N.O., then Atlanta & St Louis at home. A win over the Saints would effectively knock them out of the running and move the Cards up one spot. We do that, then I firmly believe we will walk through the Rams and Falcons to get 9 wins. Next week is the biggest game this franchise has played in nine years!
2. Washington has lost their starting QB Jason Campbell for the year with a dislocated kneecap, and I highly doubt that backup QB Todd Collins can get the job done over the next three games.
3. Detroit has to finish up without WR Roy Williams with a road game @ San Diego, home against Kansas City and then @ Green Bay. We own the tie breaker over them, and with that schedule they’re done.
4. The Minnesota Vikings are our real obstacle. They are 7-6 and hold the sixth and final Wild Card spot with a conference record of 5-5. Their final three games are Chicago (home on MNF), Washington (home) and finishing away at Denver.
Here’s what has to happen: We have to win out and they have to lose one of those first two games, either to the Bears or to the Skins. If they lose to Denver and finish 9-7 and we win out and finish 9-7, then they will go to the playoffs because their record in the NFC will be better (ours would be 6-6 and theirs would be 7-5).
How much would that suck to go 9-7, have our first winning season in nearly ten years but still miss the playoffs!! Oh well, keep the faith my friends. GO CARDS!!
