“Pick Me! No Pick Me!”…….Draft 2008 – Who Do We Pick?!?

by Cardinals

Over the last three days we have been examining our options as the draft approaches. With the 16th pick in this April’s draft, the Arizona Cardinals are in a much different position than they’ve been accustomed to over the past few years. We don’t have the top 10 pick, so we have to be very smart about who we take. Drafting at the middle of the first round means you lose your chance at the can’t-miss prospects like RB Darren McFadden, DT Glenn Dorsey or DE Chris Long. But there is still the potential for top tier talent, like San Francisco got last year with LB Patrick Willis.

Based on the looks I gave both offense and defense, I identified 3 CRITICAL NEEDS:

1. Running Back
2. Cornerback
3. Defensive End

We can address any of these needs through either free agency or the draft. So that is what the question is. Based on what we’ve talked about and these three positions, What position should the Cards draft for with our first pick?

So take a chance to look at our newly posted poll and let us know what you think. Feel free to post any comments too, as we welcome all of your comments and ideas. If you disagree with these three options and think we need to go in another direction, please let everybody know.

My opinion? Alot of it will depend on what other teams before us do, but I would say that Defensive End is our biggest priority in the draft, then Running Back and then Cornerback.

Why? I feel we can pick up some quality players at the RB and CB position through free agency, but finding a quality pass rusher is going to be hard to come by. A young, speedy, physical pass rusher is what this team needs, and a consistent pass rush will take pressure off of the secondary as well. But that’s just what I think.

GO CARDS!!!

No I agree with Michael Turner, but I think somebody is going to pay him an insane amount of money and the Cards will probably not want to pony up more money at the running back position. Also, with the fact that both Ohio State boys are going back to school and the middle LB from USC going back, I think that it has changed the landscape of the draft, pair that with Andre Woodson possibly falling into the second round the possibility of Mike Jenkins, Vernon Gholston, Derrick Harvey, Leodis Mcklevin, Aqib Talib, Keith Rivers, Phillip Merling, and other possible impact players on the defensie side of the ball now going earlier I think Stewart is the best player available, and since the Cards really are not as far away as normal, I would like them to take a possible game changer at running back and not go the route of biggest need. With sub 4.5 speed and weighing in about 230lbs. I see Stewart as a Jamal Lewis, Willie Parker, Larry Johnson type back who can share the load with Edge for a year possibly two then take over as the man.

All three of these guys are money threegamer13, but let me ask you this: if you could pick up somebody like Michael Turner or Julius Jones in free agency or be able to draft rookie Jonathan Stewart, which do you do?

I am a big fan of Jonathan Stewart, so I am just curious what you think of him compared to Jones or Turner who are both unrestricted free agents.

I would agree on the needs of the team. A young stud at D-End would be big, someone like Calais Campbell or Derick Harvey. But, if the opportunity to take Jonathan Stewart is there i would have to jump on it if I am the Cards.
