Well boys and girls, you all have spoken. In a rather surprising and overwhelming upset, you out there in the Arizona Cardinals nation have elected former Big Red DT Eric Swann as the Arizona Cardinals Greatest Of All Time!
- Drafted in the 1st round, 6th overall pick in 1991
- 9 seasons with the Cardinals (1991-99)
- 2 Time Pro Bowl Selection (1995 & 96)
- 45.5 sacks, 6 Forced Fumbles
- 376 Tckls, 2 INTs (1 returned for TD)
We looked at six names of former Cards greats: WR Rob Moore, FB Larry Centers, QB Jake Plummer, LB Ron McKinnon, CB Aeneas Williams and Swann. Now I have to be honest folks and tell you that this vote totally shocked me!
It just goes to show how much of a impact he had on the community and the fans during his decade with the Cards. Swannie was an interior monster of a DT. At 6’7″ 290 lbs, he showed incredible quickness and versatility. Swannie commanded double teams from the opposing linemen and routinely stuffed plays at the point of attack.
A 2 time Pro Bowl selection, he often led the team in sacks during his time in AZ and was the team’s cornerstone and franchise player for a number of years. In his prime, he was ranked right up there with Dana Stubblefield of the 49ers and John Randle of the Vikings as one of the top Defensive Linemen of the 90′s.
Swannie was the overwhelming choice with 81% of the current votes. Aeneas Williams and Larry Centers tied for second, but only registered 3 votes a piece and Rob Moore picked up 2 votes for 3rd place. Only Jake the Snake and Ron McKinnon got the goose eggs from the fans. To be honest I cast my vote for Aeneas, and that is who I was expecting everyone else to vote for as well, but you the fans have spoken!
The Arizona Cardinals G.O.A.T. is………..ERIC SWANN!!!
