Cards Roll, Squish the Fish 31-10

Well that was fun!!

I just returned from the game this afternoon and I can honestly say I haven’t been happier to be an Arizona Cardinals fan.  For the first time since 1991, the Cardinals are 2-0 after defeating the Miami Dolphins 31-10 this afternoon at University of Phoenix Stadium.

I do have to remember the fact that we’ve beaten San Francisco and Miami, not Dallas and New England.  However, it’s a great start.  I’ll be honest, I was a little skeptical of the Cardinals coming out and rising above the competition instead of playing down to it.  I kept waiting for the mistakes.  Instead, it was the Dolphins who kept shooting themselves in the foot.  Neither team turned the ball over, however Miami killed itself with untimely penalties, poor play by Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington,  and a running game that couldn’t get going.

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner and receiver Anquan Boldin had the great day though and were the primary two reasons the Cardinals jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. Warner threw for 361 yards and Boldin caught all three of his touchdown passes.  It was so impressive that Vinne over at ramblinfan.com asked if we could trade Warner for St. Louis quarterback Marc Bulger.  No thanks.  You had your chance with him.  This is the best I’ve seen Warner play aince his MVP year with the Rams.  Also of note, Larry Fitzgerald would have had one of those TD catches if he had not been caught from behind on a 76 yard pass.

The lone bright spot for the Dolphins has to be the play of backup quarterback Chad Henne.  He led the Dolphins on an impressive 4th quarter touchdown drive after he replaced the struggling Pennington.  The Cardinals still had most of their first team defense in the game as well, making it that much more impressive.  The drive included a couple of 4th down conversions, including the touchdown score.

With Seattle losing in overtime to San Francisco 33-30 and St. Louis being demolished by Hurricane New York Giants 41-13, the Cardinals are still in sole possession of first place at 2-0.  It’s still very early, however it’s a great start and great fun to talk about.  Gimme a break, I know most teams don’t get excited at 2-0, but for the Cardinals, it’s something cool.

Go Cards!
