Props, Cardinals, Super Bowl...Say What?

By BetUS

When Super Bowl XLIII comes calling on Sunday, Feb. 1, BetUS will take in the most action of the year on one single game from any sport. By far, it’s the biggest bet on event in America. Millions of sports betting dollars will be placed on the big game, ranging from the coin toss, half-time show (featuring Bruce Springsteen), clear through the games final score. And this year, you can even bet on the Cardinals. That’s right, the Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl!

The Pittsburgh Steelers know all about the Super Bowl, having made six previous appearances and winning five, as they look for an NFL-best sixth championship. The Arizona Cardinals are new to the big stage as they make its first-ever Super Bowl appearance, winning three playoff games in decisive fashion to reach Tampa. Arizona has covered the spread in all three postseason outings, having posted a robust 95 points combined (31.7 ppg), including a 33-13 road win over double-digit favored Carolina in the division round.

The closest thing to history between these two teams are Pittsburgh has the ”Terrible Towel”, and prior to this season, Arizona has just been simply terrible. The Steelers and Cardinals have played only eight times in 36 years, with the Steelers holding a 5-3 SU edge in the series. Three of those meetings came when the Cardinals were in St. Louis — the Steelers won games in 1972, 1979 and 1988. The Cardinals beat the Steelers 21-14 on Sept. 30, 2007. The Steelers beat the Cardinals in 2003 and 1997.

With virtually no head-to-head SU or ATS trends to call on as handicapping tools, this year’s Super Bowl money-making bets may rest in the BetUS Super Bowl prop odds section. Starting with the coin toss. Yes, the coin toss! Wagering on the coin toss isn’t that bad of an idea, because it’s a lock—it’s the strongest 50/50 prop wager on the board. Who said there’s no guarantees or locks in this business?

Amazingly, the NFC has won the last eleven consecutive flips. There’s a strong Super Bowl betting trend for you! Overall, in the history of the Super Bowl the NFC has won the coin toss 28 times, compared to 14 times for the AFC. The team winning the toss has lost the big game in four of the last five, and nine times in the last 12 years. In the last twelve Super Bowls, heads has prevailed in 7-of-12 tosses with the last eight flips landing on heads five times.

Sport’s gamblers can certainly make a case that selecting side and ‘total’ winners against the spread is like tossing a coin. Of course, there’s luck involved, so why not call it…heads or tails? The gratification can be instant, and it can provide you extra funds to bet at halftime or throughout the game on live wagering which will be offered at BetUS. And, you’ll get first chance at bragging rights over your buddies on the big day that you had the balls to bet the flip, and no day of the year is more about bragging rights than the Super Bowl.

Speaking of bragging rights, which quarterback will reign supreme? With the Super Bowl generating more props than any other sports wagering event in America, there’s a slew of signal caller props to select from at BetUS. Both Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner have been dazzling in postseason.

Warner owns a playoff-best QB rating (112.1), second-most yards (770), highest completion percentage (63.3) and most touchdowns (8). Roethlisberger has the second-best QB rating (90.8) fifth-most yards (436), a completion percentage of 55.9 and two touchdowns. But these numbers are a bit misleading because Warner’s stats are compiled from three postseason matchups compared to Roethisberger’s two.

When glancing through the BetUS props constructed around receivers and running backs, keep Larry Fitzgerald and Edgerrin James in mind. Fitzgerald has made a strong claim as the best wide receiver in the league. Fitzgerald collected 419 receiving yards in the playoffs, breaking the single-season mark held by Jerry Rice. James leads postseason rushers with 203 yards on 52 carries.

Betting on sides and ‘totals’ are a mere drop in the bucket when in comes to wagering on the Super Bowl. Newbies and seasoned gamblers are progressively placing coin on prop wagers, because they are exciting and their growing popularity has created a wide variety props. In fact, it’s easy to be intimidated or overwhelmed by the enormous amount of props listed for the many different categories. Take your time and glance through them all, and odds are you’ll find something that’ll build your bankroll. Get started at the BetUS sportsbook today to get in on the Super Bowl sign up bonus.
