On the “Edge” of Leaving

Arizona Cardinals running back Edgerrin James officially asked for his release today.

What took him so long?

Weeks after asking for his release the first time and being denied, this time his wish may come true.  The Cardinals have their money to spend elsewhere and don’t look for any of it to be spent on an aging running back.  Edge had a good run in Arizona, including a rejuvenation of sorts in the playoffs this season.  However it is clear the team wants to give Tim Hightower every chance to take over the primary role in the back field.  I would not be surprised to see the Cards take a late round chance in the 2009 NFL draft on a running back.
