The Cut to 75 Includes Rookie Garvin

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, Training Camp | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Arizona Cardinals made their cuts to get to 75 today.  They had until tomorrow to get it done. Included in the cut to 75 was the waiving of Michael Ray Garvin.  I liked what he brought to the table.  He was a quick guy who unfortunately found himself injured early on in camp.  His injury was something the Cards apparently couldn’t wait on to get better. On the first day of camp he tried to show everyone up by out running everyone in conditioning sprints.  Receiver Anquan Boldin didn’t take to that to lightly.  He thought Garvin needed to [...]

Never Too ‘Early’ to Call Cards Injury Prone

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, Training Camp | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The walking wounded around Cardinals Camp is going to start to resemble a M*A*S*H unit soon if they aren’t careful.  More injuries were reported today from the headquarters of the football team of the southwest. Receiver Early Doucet is hurt – again.  He apparently injured some ribs during the first half on Friday night against Green Bay.  Who knew?  Apparently no one.  He played the entire second half with the injury.  Now, he won’t see action for at least two weeks.  You have to wonder what it does for his chances to find the final 53?  I think he’s still [...]

Blowout Turns Exciting in 4th, Cards Lose 44-37

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cardinals, Fanzone, Gameday, Training Camp | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Whew. That may have been the longest last two minutes of an NFL football game, preseason or not, that I have ever experienced. Just when you thought the Cardinals were out of it, down 38-10 at halftime, the Cards ended up getting to within 1 at 38-37 with 45 seconds left.  They decided to go for the two-point conversion to win the game instead of going for overtime.  In the preseason – it’s the right call, most definitely.  A great time to work on those things. The Cardinals failed in converting, but still got a chance after a failed onside [...]

No Mercy Rule In Effect, Even in Preseason

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cardinals, Fanzone, Gameday, Training Camp | COMMENTS: None Yet

If there was a mercy rule in the NFL preseason, we’d be close to calling it now.  The Cards are currently down 31-10 with still four minutes left on the clock in the first half. Last week I had the good, the bad, and the ugly at halftime.  This week, it’s all ugly with one flash of brightness. Let me just get the flash of brightness out of the way now.  Beanie Wells. He had a very nice run for touchdown to cut a 24-3 lead to 24-10, before on the very next play from scrimmage was a deep pass [...]

A Cowboy Conspiracy

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, News, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here I thought, just thought maybe, the NFL was going to rule against Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys on this one.  Nope.  Not a chance. The NFL announced today that, although they are changing the rule when a ball hits their new video scoreboard, that now it will be a do-over and is subject to video review, they will not be forcing the Cowboys to alter the 90 foot height of the board.  What a surprise!  I’m guessing this deicision was made for two reasons.  One, the NFL wanted to save face, since they ultimately were the ones who [...]

A Receiver of Good Fortune

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, Gameday, Training Camp | COMMENTS: None Yet

With tonight’s game against the Green Bay Packers only being the third preseason game, there are still a lot of things left to be resolved, such as who will emerge as the fifth and sixth receivers for this team?  Will this team do the unheard of and carry seven receivers into the new season? With Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston out of tonight’s action at University of Phoenix Stadium, it is a prime opportunity for receivers Lance Long, Sean Morey, Early Doucet, and Onrea Jones to show what they have.  Of those four guys, two figure to make this team.  [...]

Third Preseason Game Brings More Action For Starters

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the Arizona Cardinals prepare for their third preseason game this week against the Green Bay Packers, coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated that the starters would play all of the first half and maybe into the third depending how things go in the first half Friday night. Starters typically play the most in game three and typically the least in game four.  Enjoy what you see on Friday night because you won’t see much of Kurt Warner and company again until September 13th against San Francisco in the opener. The receiver core, as deep as everyone touts it, seems to just [...]

Cody Brown Out For Season

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, Training Camp | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was over before it even began.  Second round draft pick, linebacker Cody Brown, out of UConn, injured his wrist on Saturday night and is out for the season. Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed the injury today.  Although he was slated as a starter, it does hurt depth, as does any injury. If you are unfamiliar with him, please view some highlights from a game against the University of Buffalo last season.

‘Edge’ Signs With Seahawks

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cardinals, Fanzone | COMMENTS: None Yet

Former Arizona Cardinals running back Edgerrin James did exactly what I thought he would and should after last season ended – he signed with an NFC West opponent, the Seattle Seahawks. Now, this seems to be a good fit for Edge and honestly that is the most likely reason Edge signed with an NFC West foe in Seattle.  Julius Jones hasn’t panned out the way the Seahawks envisioned, at least not producing like he did in Dallas. You have to think part of Edge though is estatic that he has signed with another NFC West team.  This guarantees Edge will [...]

Takeaways From the Cardinals-Chargers Game

AUTHOR: | IN: Cardinals, Fanzone, Training Camp | COMMENTS: None Yet

Even in most losses, you can always find some positives, especially when it is preseason and you are looking for positives to take into the next week of practice and the next game.  During the regular season, it is easier to work on the things that didn’t work rather than dwell on what is going right.  There just isn’t the time. So, what do you think went well Saturday night for the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix stadium?  There were some good things I thought.  I was impressed with the first team defensive line.
