Lutui Only Player to Miss Cardinals Minicamp
He might not be under contract, however I find it very intriguing that right guard Deuce Lutui was the only player missing from the Arizona Cardinals minicamp. According to Kent Somers from the Arizona Republic, coach Ken Whisenhunt would not address his absence. I will. He doesn’t have a contract. He is not required technically to be there, but it has to sting that he doesn’t have a contract and the Cards just signed free-agent Alan Faneca to a big fat contract. I have to wonder about Lutui’s decision to skip out though. contract or no contract, you’ve got to [...]
Offensive lineman Alan Faneca is an Arizona Cardinal. I never thought I would hear myself say those words, but that is exactly the case after Arizona jumped on his availability when the New York Jets released him. He signed a one-year $2.5 million contract. By signing the not very long free agent, it immediately makes up for not drafting an offensive lineman this past weekend in the draft. This may end up being the best off-season pickup by the Cardinals yet. With Matt Leinart behind center, his signing proves even more important and adds veteran leadership to a position [...]
Grading the Arizona Cardinals Draft
We’ve had a couple of days to stew it over, and now it’s time ro reflect on how the Arizona Cardinals did in the 2010 NFL Draft. First Round – Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee. It’s hard to imagine the Cardinals finding a better player for a position of need at number 26. Most mock drafts, including mine, did not include the Cardinals taking Williams at 26. That is only because most had Williams long gone by this pick. Kudos for the Cardinals being patient and not trading up to get him. Coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated that they had Williams being [...]
Dan Williams Highlights
Highlights from Dan Williams senior season at Tennessee. Williams was selected at number 26 in the first round Thursday night by the Arizona Cardinals.
John Skelton Highlights
Here are some highlights I found of the new Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton, drafted in the fifth round yesterday out of Fordham.
Trading Up Nets Fordham QB
The Arizona Cardinals did draft a quarterback to groom for the future after all. However, it was one that wasn’t on many people’s radar, at least from my vantage point. Quarterback John Skelton from Fordham was the Cards fifth round pick, a pick the Cards had to trade up to get to. The Cards traded CB Bryant McFadden back to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team he played with prior to coming to Arizona last season. It is somewhat of a surprise the Cardinals moved up to get Skelton, however that tells me they really liked what they saw in him [...]
Seahawks, Pete Carroll Making Splash
Round four may be the biggest splash at the draft yet, at least as far as the Seattle Seahawks and the impact on the NFC West is concerned. Coach Pete Carroll is loading up with excellent talent in the draft and just traded down in the fourth round to get running back LenDale White from the Tennssee Titans, somsone Carroll is very familiar with from his days at USC. Carroll appears to be looking for players he is familiar with, either through coaching or playing against. Yesterday he grabbed Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate. Who will he look for [...]
Cardinals Second and Third Round Draft Recap
The Arizona Cardinals continued to draft in areas of need on Friday in the second and third rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft. In the second round on Friday, the Cards took OLB Daryl Washington from TCU. It wasn’t the TCU OLB I had expected them to take in Jerry Hughes, but apparently this was the guy the Cards wanted all along. They worked hard to trade up to the number 47 slot to get him. Washington, considered an explosive pass rusher, really came on the scene in 2009, leading TCU with 109 tackles. In the third round, the Cardinals [...]
Cardinals Round Two Pick
Who should the Arizona Cardinals take in the second round. They have needs all over the field and on both sides of it. It would be nice to get another quarterback on the roster. I would love the Cardinals address their linebacker needs and offensive line needs. You can’t get it all at once, but they have one second round pick and two third round picks as of right now.
2010 NFL Draft Day Two
Ready for another afternoon of draft fun? Rounds two and three take place today, round two starting in about five minutes. What the Arizona Cardinals do in these two rounds is anyone’s guess. Quarterback, linebacker? Cornerback, wide receiver? Offensive lineman? Who knows. I do know this, the Cardinals have proven to be smart and not necessarily take the best player overall available, however the best player available for their needs. They did just that in round one last night by taking Dan Williams, DT from Tennessee. So sit back, relax, and enjoy what is to come over the next two [...]
