Deuce Lutui Now U.S. Citizen

Happy 4th of July Arizona Cardinals fans!

One person who is celebrating a little differently today is Cards guard Deuce Lutui.  As of Friday, Lutui is now a U.S. Citizen, as he was sworn in with 3,800 others in a ceremony at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.

Lutui spent  a lot of time missing practices and going to interviews in order to become the first member of his family to become a U.S. Citizen.  He had the blessing of Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt.  Lutui, who just signed a one-year offer last month, went through all of this despite losing his father the same week he had his final interview.  He said he is accomplishing one of his father’s goals.

For all that I ragged on Lutui for not being at practice this spring because he wouldn’t sign a contract, I commend him for the hard work he did to become a citizen of this country.  Lutui may not be the most talented player on the field.  He may not be the most interesting to people.  He may not be your favorite.  However, he should be considered one of the most hard working and one of the guys with the biggest hearts.

Congrats Deuce!  Happy Independence Day!
