Aisle 5: Cereal, Peanut Butter, Matt Leinart
If you are an NFL team not currently named the Arizona Cardinals, good news for you! Cards quarterback Matt Leinart is for sale! According to reports , the current Cards quarterback is being shopped by your Cardinals. From the sounds of it, not too many of you are disappointed by that either. It’s not really a surprise though, is it? Derek Anderson is starting against the Washington Redskins on Thursday. After practice yesterday, Leinart criticized the way his demotion this past Saturday was handled. Now, Leinart and coach Ken Whisenhunt apparently cleared the air, however it may have been a [...]
Kurt Warner Confirmed for DWTS
Kurt Warner was really never known to be fleet of foot on the football field. Apparently, he’s hoping he will on the dance floor. Just announced officially a little while ago was the former Arizona Cardinals quarterback as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. The rumors has been out there for weeks that Warner was going to be on the ABC hit show. Over the past few days though, a lot of rumors didn’t include him on the list, so we were left wondering if it would really happen for him or not? Well, now we know. He will [...]
The Reviews Are In
How do others think the battle for Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback between Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson went last night? Mike Sando from ESPN.com said the Cardinals choices seem to be more favorable after last night’s performances Chad Middleton from Bleacher Report though both played well. He thought that Anderson showed some confidence but still lacks in accuracy MSNBC.com says the race is too close to call Darren Urban of azcardinals.com said he wasn’t sure what coach Ken Whisenhunt was aiming for in starting Anderson, but it worked CBSSports.com says neither quarterback looked bad
Roster Decisions Loom
Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has some very tough decisions to make this week, typically the hardest (and maybe easiest in some cases) decision making week as rosters are cut to 75 and then 53 by next weekend. The top decisions: Quarterback – Matt Leinart vs. Derek Anderson Leinart started out slow, thus he was replaced as the starter against the Chicago Bears last night. Both quarterbacks though played well as they both drove the Cardinals to touchdowns. As I said last night, I’m not sure Anderson did enough and Leinart little enough for there to be an official [...]
Offensive Line Leaves Quarterbacks Scrambling
The offensive line performance continues to disappoint. On Saturday evening against the Chicago Bears, the offensive line again was creating ways to have Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks Derek Anderson, Matt Leinart, and John Skelton running and ducking every which way. Maybe Alan Faneca is washed up? Maybe Reggie Wells is no good? Maybe Levi Brown only gets up for regular season games? Maybe, just maybe the line just isn’t very good? I thought it might have been the line not respecting Leinart. Well, Anderson and Skelton were under just as much, if not more, pressure this evening.
Cardinals Hold On for Victory
The Arizona Cardinals looked a lot better this evening as they defeated the Chicago Bears 14-9 at Soldier Field in Chicago. You can thank Cards head coach Ken Whisenhunt. His decision to start Derek Anderson over Matt Leinart may have shown him what he needed to see to make a decision on a regular season starter. Now, to be fair, after Anderson led the Cards on a 10-play 72 yard drive, Matt Leinart came on and looked halfway decent as well, driving the Cards for a third quarter score. Personally, I think they both need to see some more time [...]
Anderson to Start Against Bears; Leinart Watch is On
The other day I said not to hit the fire alarm just yet on Matt Leinart. After today’s news that Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback Derek Anderson would start on Saturday night against the Chicago Bears, I’m not sure I would just yet now either. There are a couple of different ways we can take this news. First of all, coach Ken Whisenhunt said not to read too much into the change. Leinart is going to still play, however it will be in the second and third quarters and not the first. Secondly, Leinart is STILL PLAYING. He’s not been cut, [...]
Cards Practice in Tennessee
The Arizona Cardinals spent their Wednesday practicing against the team that dominated them on Monday Night Football, the Tennessee Titans. Apparently no fights broke out. Bummer. Actually that’s probably a good thing. Less risk for a stupid injury. I am all in favor of the Cards practicing against other teams in the preseason. They practiced against the San Diego Chargers for a couple of seasons in the 1990′s. The Cards I think are making good use of their time and money by staying in Tennessee leading up to the Chicago game on Saturday. It is a little odd to practice [...]
A Deeper Look Into the Numbers
If you are a numbers guy, well, then Matt Leinart isn’t your guy to quarterback the Arizona Cardinals after two games into the preseason. A quick look at the numbers so far two games in: Matt Leinart: 10-13 , 77 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT Derek Anderson: 24-41, 193 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT John Skelton: 5-6, 84 yds, 1TD, 0 INT Max Hall: 7-15, 101 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Let’s Not Hit the Fire Alarm Just Yet
Sure, the Arizona Cardinals first team didn’t play well last night against the Tennessee Titans. I get that. It is the second week in a row the Cardinals first team has failed on both sides of the ball. Don’t just be calling for anyone’s head just yet. Wait till next week to do that. That’s when the first team should probably play its most significant time of preseason. Next week, by the way, comes only four days from now in Chicago. Matt Leinart didn’t look good for a second week in a row. It wasn’t all his fault. It would [...]
