Cards Go Back to Work
For the Arizona Cardinals, the bye week has come to an end. Today it was back to work to get ready for the Seattle Seahawks, who celebrated this weekend with a 23-20 victory over the Bears in Chicago. The Cards hopefully have studied film and then studied more film. These Seahawks have gotten better. I was impressed with the road victory. I really thought they wouldn’t win on the road at all this season. Now, they go home and it will be loud. Very loud.
Rumors of a Lutui Extension
There are rumors of a Deuce Lutui extension coming up in the near future. I would be surprised to see something happen during the season, although I wouldn’t rule it out. I just have a hard time believing the Arizona Cardinals would want to reward anyone on that offensive line as poorly as they have played as a unit. They did give quarterback Max Hall a little time this past Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, however, for the most part that have been anything but good. I like Lutui. I love the fact he has greatly improved in the [...]
Have a Pulse? You Too Can Win Rookie of the Week
Clearly the NFL Pepsi Rookie of the Week contest is a popularity contest. There can be no other reason why Arizona Cardinals quarterback Max Hall won the award this week. During the week I spelled out my reasons for why Hall would have a tough time winning. The other four candidates made statistical contributions to their teams that had a huge effect on their teams outcomes. I’m not saying Hall played bad by any stretch. In fact, I saw a lot more good than bad from Hall against the New Orleans Saints. I know there was a huge push by [...]
Ultimate Displaced Fan Contest
If you live in the Phoenix area and are reading this, probably many of you are not an Arizona Cardinals fan or just an Arizona Cardinals fan. The Phoenix area is full of NFL fans from other cities. There are clubs that meet for other teams all over the valley. The Raiders, Seahawks, Bills, Broncos, Cowboys, and Vikings just to name some of the larger following’s in Arizona. There are fans of practically every other team in the Phoenix area. Well, ok, I’ve yet to run into many Detroit Lions fans locally, but you get the idea. Direct TV, our [...]
Injured Players May Return After Break
After the bye week, Arizona Cardinals receivers Steve Breaston and Early Doucet are poised to return to action when the Cards face the Seattle Seahawks on October 24th. Also preparing for a possible return is linebacker Gerald Hayes. Hayes has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since preseason. As far as Breaston and Doucet go, I wouldn’t go out and get ready to start them in your fantasy leagues just yet. First, we need to see if either practice next week. The bye week bought each of them an extra week without missing another week. Even if they [...]
Hall Serviceable; Not Rookie of the Week
When I heard Arizona Cardinals quarterback Max Hall was up for Rookie of the Week this week, I did a double take. I had to ask myself, why? It must have been slim pickens in the rookie performance pool this week. Then I saw who was up against him. Brandon Graham, Eagles – he had two tackles and a sack Alterraun Verner, Titans – eight tackles and an interception Ndamukong Suh, Lions – three tackles and an interception Mike Williams, Bucs – seven catches for 99 yards and a TD
So, that was fun…and unexpected. Most thought we would be sitting here this evening talking about an Arizona Cardinals lopsided loss to the New Orleans Saints, mostly due in part to the Cards starting undrafted rookie Max Hall at quarterback. Hall played far from perfect on Sunday, but played well and didn’t need to be perfect on a day for the defense. The Cards defense picked off Saints quarterback Drew Brees three times, his last returned for a touchdown, and came up with a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Sure, Brees was able to throw the ball around the field [...]
Cards Hanging Tough, Down 13-10 at Halftime
Max Hall didn’t have such a great start. His second pass intercepted. Since then, he has shown some toughness, made a couple of really nice throws, and kept his team in the game against the New Orleans Saints. Too bad he can’t play defense as well. Saints, after turning the ball over at their own one yard line, which led to the Arizona Cardinals only touchdown, went marching right down the field in the final two minutes to re-gain the lead. The good: Max Hall, Larry Fitzgerald, and Beanie Wells. The three of them kept the ball moving on offense. [...]
Hall Makes Starting Debut
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Max Hall will make his starting debut today against the New Orleans Saints. Many are predicting doom and demise of the Cards team as a whole. I’ve heard 45-7, 42-7, 41-0, I’ve heard it all in terms how much of a blowout this game will be. Clearly the quarterback position is not the only position in dire straits on the Cards roster. The offensive line needs major improvement, which is a major understatement. The defense needs help all over the place. It would be nice to hear Darnell Dockett’s name called at least ONCE. He had zero [...]
Cards – Saints Fantasy Forecast
With as many injuries that the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints have had to face early in the season, are there any fantasy studs left out there for either team? You bet. Here’s a look at this weeks players. Must play: Drew Brees – he will light up the Cards secondary, at least I think. Beanie Wells – look for him to get a lot more reps this week after his public complaints. Larry Fitzgerald – proclaimed he will catch any ball thrown to him within reach, spiral or no spiral.
