Arizona Cardinals Would Be Wise to Hang On To DRC

The big rumor over the past couple of weeks has been a straight up trade or a trade that involves Arizona Cardinals cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for the Philadelphia Eagles Kevin Kolb.  As I mentioned when the rumors first surface, it is not a good idea to trade DRC for anyone, even if it was Peyton Manning.

If the Cards had a reliable person to fill his shoes, then I would say trade DRC.  Fact is, they drafted Patrick Peterson from LSU to be the guy on the other side of the field.  He will be a rookie.  If a rookie is the best you got at the position, you are in trouble.  Peterson is going to be a great one, no doubt, but the problem will be youth.  If you got tired of corners getting burned in 2010, 2011 will not change your attitude much if this trade is allowed to go through.

You backup is Greg Toler.  Yeah,  case closed.  If this was Peterson’s second or even better, third season, then I would say the Cards should consider the DRC deal.  Not right now though.  The Cards defense needs DRC, especially with Peterson on the other side learning as he goes along.  Don’t forget we lost all this off-season stuff too, so Peterson’s learning curve will be that much narrower.
