Cards-Rams Facing Battle of the Backups

So, it appears Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb will not play on Sunday.  The same can be said about St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford.  It’s looking more and more like a matchup of backups – John Skelton vs. A.J. Feely.  If that is the case, it could make for a very interesting game.  In Skelton’s case, even if he plays well, don’t go calling for him to replace Kolb.  That’s just stupid.

Stupid will be the Cards for not going with Kolb as soon as he is healthy.  I have no issue with giving Skelton another shot in the last couple weeks of the season if the Cards are way out of it and only have a couple of wins.  Kolb needs the reps though.  He gets no better by sitting. Oh, and there will be no QB controversy, Kolb will be your QB next season if healthy.

I know it’s not what people want to hear and I guarantee people will be calling for Skelton to start if he plays well on Sunday.  It’s just not the right time – yet.

Go with the “hot hand”. A quarterback controvery may be just what the Cardinals need at this point in the season. Its all about winning. We the fans and coaches don’t have the time to train a “maybe quarterback”. You eiather click with your first opportunity or sit on the bench waiting for the next opportunity which may never come. Just ask Tom Brady and the coach of the New England Patriots.

Also keep in mind that it was the back-up quarterback of the Rams that got them them their first win last week and not their starter. There is no substitute for winning says coach Lombardi and I agree.
