The Arizona Cardinals face the San Francisco 49′ers on Sunday. That much we know. What we don’t know is which Cards team will show up against the 8-1 division leaders. With five games out of the division lead with seven games left to play, the division is all but the Niners’ no matter what happens. What the Cards can control though is their play on the field and their own attempt to get back to a respectable record.
Everyone hurts, some more than others. We know Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb will probably sit this Sunday out against the San Francisco 49er’s. John Skelton would get the call again in his place. However guys like Beanie Wells need to do whatever is necessary to get on the field. The Cards don’t have the backup at running back this season like they do at quarterback. Wells, who has not practiced, has still not had a status for Sunday determined yet. I can tell you this, to entertain any ideas of winning, he needs to play.
Rewind: Arizona vs. San Francisco, 11/10/08
This week’s game against the 49ers brings back memories of one of the most exciting Cardinals games in the Whisenhunt era … a game that finally established the fact that this team was no longer the same old Cardinals. It was a Monday night game, and the Cardinals won the game 29-24 — the first Monday night game the Cardinals ever won in Arizona.
Cards John Skelton Owns Best NFL Second Year QB Rating
It has only been two games, I realize that. I also realize I believe this man should be the backup when Kevin Kolb is healthy again, however that doesn’t keep me from pointing out the fact that Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton has the best rating in the NFL for second-year quarterbacks. I thought I would check out the stats and see how he compared considering how much everyone has been talking up a guy who hasn’t had a great performance yet, but two serviceable ones. Skelton currently has a QB rating of 84.1., which is the best rating of [...]
The Arizona Cardinals now have themselves a nice problem. They have two guys that can start an NFL football game at quarterback. Granted, second-year player John Skelton has a better record and can be argued as played better than Kevin Kolb to this point. Skelton is 2-0 this season. Kolb is 1-6. Let’s not forget what we all said though before the season began? Preach patience. It could take Kolb all season to get comfortable in this system. Skelton is now in his second year in the system. I do know this about Skelton though, I have no reservations sending [...]
9 Observations About the Cardinals-Eagles Game
Finally…a game that I can thoroughly enjoy writing about. This was the most satisfying game of the year, a victory on the East Coast as two-touchdown underdogs. Here are my observations; 1) Without a doubt, this was the Cardinals best defensive effort of the year — a complete effort for four quarters. They played with energy. The tackling was solid. The pass coverage was superb. And they made big plays when it counted.
The Arizona Cardinals pulled off an improbable win today over the Philadelphia Eagles 21-17 in Philadelphia. That’s right, IN Philadelphia. It is the first road win in 12 road games for the Cardinals. That’s all you really need to know. It doesn’t matter how it really happened. However, I will still talk about it. You have to because not everything went right for the Cardinals, but there were sure a lot of things that went wrong with the Eagles. For what it’s worth, John Skelton played ok, however Kevin Kolb is still the starting quarterback and there should be no [...]
Cardinals Down in Philly at Halftime 14-7
Well, it could have been worse, but it should have been better. The Arizona Cardinals are down 14-7 to the Philadelphia Eagles at halftime. Kicker Jay Feely missed two field goals and quarterback John Skelton threw an interception to Asante Samuel for a 20 yard pick-six. This easily could be a 13-7 Cards game at halftime. It is what it is.
John Skelton to Start for Arizona Cardinals
As expected, with starting quarterback Kevin Kolb still nursing turf toe and having sat out practice all week, backup John Skelton will be the starter today against the Philadelphia Eagles. It could turn out to be a very ugly day in Philly. I will give Skelton the benefit of the doubt, at least until the first offensive series. As for Kolb, it is the homecoming reunion that was not meant to be.
Cardinals Have One Less Eagles Headache to Deal With
The Arizona Cardinals got a bit of good news first thing this morning. Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been ruled inactive by the Eagles. No, he’s not hurt. The man missed not just a team meeting, but a special teams meeting on Saturday. He has had his troubles on special teams as of late. Clearly Eagles coach Andy Reid is trying to send a clear message to not only Jackson but his team. They sit at a disappointing 3-5.
