Arizona Cardinals Make Cuts Down to 53

The Arizona Cardinals, like all other teams made their final cuts down to the 53-man roster on Friday.  There were a couple of surprises, however nothing that stood out as earth shattering.  To me the biggest cut was probably linebacker Clark Haggans.  Honestly I thought he had done enough to make this roster, however age may have caught up with him.

Other notable roster moves:

QB Richard Bartel was not cut but instead placed on Injured Reserve.  As was RB Javarris Jones.

The Cards also cut G Russ Hochstein who had been signed for depth during training camp.  RB Alfonso Smith was cut in favor of William Powell, who led the NFL in rushing in the preseason with 249 yards.

WR’s Steven Williams, Demarco Sampson, and Isaiah Williams failed to make the roster.  This means LaRon Byrd did.  Byrd had a great preseason.

OT D.J. Young failed to impress after he was brought in as a replacement for the injured Levi Brown.

CB Crezdon Butler, LB Antonio Coleman, S Blake Gideon, DT Ricky Lumpkin, LB Colin Parker, CB Larry Parker, TE Steve Skelton, LB Quad Sturdivant, DE Ronald Talley, DE Everrette Thompson, TE Martell Webb, C Scott Wedige, and LB Brandon Williams round out the cuts.
