As we head into this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, teams are preparing for April’s 2013 NFL Draft. The Arizona Cardinals have needs in several areas and some others they are doing alright in. However, I am going to take a look at a position by position look at the Cardinals and see what lies ahead for 2013 and what the needs are, if any. Let’s start with the Cards linebackers.
For the most part, the Cardinals have a very good linebacker core, especially on the inside. Some may argue the level of talent on the outside, however I don’t. I like what the Cards roster looks like at this position and feel it needs little tweaking.
Star/Perennial Pro-Bowler: Daryl Washington
Solid/Serviceable: Sam Acho, Quentin Groves, Paris Lenon, O’Brien Schofield
On the Bubble: Stewart Bradley, Reggie Walker
Draft Outlook: Well, who wouldn’t want to take Jarvis Jones? It’s not a pressing need, so no Jones for the Cards. However, look in the middle rounds to pick up a guy like a Chase Thomas from Stanford or even take a chance on the less than 100% Jelani Jenkins from Florida. Even a late round guy like Jenkins teammate Lerentee McCray or an Etienne Sabino from Ohio State.
Don’t look for a lot of changes here. I could see Bradley or Walker not making it out of camp in lieu of a draft stud. This group is solid and should be for years.
