The week is almost over, and it’s time to catch up on the latest Arizona Cardinals news.

After the Cardinals released Brian Hoyer on Monday, he signed with the quarterback-needy Cleveland Browns. Hoyer isn’t likely to be Cleveland’s long-term answer at quarterback, but he is a guy who could step in for Brandon Weeden if Weeden is hurt or struggles. Because the Cardinals cut Hoyer, they now have three quarterbacks on the roster: Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley.

The Cardinals are also in the mix for free agent left tackle Max Starks. Starks would add depth and a veteran presence to Arizona’s line if he was signed, as the Cardinals’ line allowed a ridiculous 58 sacks in 2012. Starks weighs 345 pounds and would be able to protect Palmer’s blind side, which would be huge for the Cardinals. Expect Arizona to make a run for Starks.

Albert Breer of NFL Network wrote about how Tyrann Mathieu is looking for a new beginning with the Cardinals. Mathieu has failed multiple drug tests and missed the entire 2012 season due to behavioral issues, so he’s going to need to clean up his behavior with the Cardinals. Arizona took a risk on the playmaker, and if Mathieu cleans up his behavior, it will pay off.
