Training camp will be key for the Arizona Cardinals.

The team is chock full of new players, as the Cardinals added about 50 new players in the offseason. All of them are looking to make the roster, and a good training camp performance is key for all of them. No one knows who will break onto the scene, but we do know that there will be surprises, there will be great players, there will be excitement and there will be heartbreak.

CBS Sports gave everyone a look at the biggest training camp storylines for the Cardinals. As the article notes, there are some players, such as defensive tackle Dan Williams, who will need to step up this year, and there are position battles that need to be decided. For example, cornerbacks Antoine Cason and Jerraud Powers are both candidates to start opposite Pro Bowl corner Patrick Peterson, and neither have the job locked up.

Some players are roster locks, but that doesn’t mean their work is done. For example, quarterback Carson Palmer has a lot to prove in Arizona after a poor stint in Oakland (he went 8-18 with the Raiders), and he has the weapons around him to do that. Palmer hasn’t had great talent around him in a long time, and he has pass-catching weapons in Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and others.

Whether Palmer can continue to develop chemistry with his talented receivers will be interesting to watch. The Cardinals are a revamped team, and chemistry is a huge storyline. If Palmer and his wideouts don’t have good chemistry when the season starts, it will hurt the pass-first offense greatly.

Can the Cardinals put their talent together and improve upon their 5-11 2012 season? We won’t know for sure until the season starts, but training camp will give everyone a good idea.
