The Arizona Cardinals will take on the San Francisco 49’ers in the first of two meetings this season.  This first matchup of the two teams will be a litmus test for the Cards.  Both teams are 3-2 and the winner of this one will still be within striking distance of the division leader Seattle Seahawks.  Lose this one, especially if you are the Niners, then it could mean trouble when it comes to winning the division for them.  I think understatement would be the word if the Cards came out with a win.

A loss doesn’t doom either team’s chances for a wild card playoff.  The loser is 3-3 but then that means they could be two games behind Seattle after week six. The Cards defense must contain the read-option offense but even Cards defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has said this game will be a tough one.  The Cards will need to have ball control on offense in order to have any shot.

This game was also in San Francisco and it was a game that meant nothing to the Niners and their playoff chances as it was week 17 of the 2012 season. The Cards were trying to play out what started out as a promising season at 4-0 but only won one game after that.  This loss would carry the Cards to a 5-11 disappointing finish.  The Niners won the game 27-13.
