My Experience as the “Sonic Fan of the Game”

For the Houston Texans game (post game analysis can be found HERE), I was selected as the “Sonic Fan of the Game.” I was called by the Arizona Sports radio station saying that I had won and needed to come pick up the tickets, etc. I laughed when reading the instruction letter on where to sit because it had also mentioned to make sure that you wear “Cardinals gear.” I am glad that they try to weed out those pesky 49ers & Seahawks fans (sorry guys)! Generally my wife and I sit with her parents who have season tickets on the first row and 50 yard line. We decided to accept the offer for the “Sonic Fan of the Game” and sit elsewhere. We sat in section 116 and row 27, which are really good seats. It was great for us to experience a new viewpoint in the stadium that we haven’t seen before. On top of being the “Sonic Fan of the Game” there were many other things happening at the stadium. There was the Veterans Day Card Display which was done very tastefully, there was a Veterans Day tribute band playing at halftime, and then of course there was a close game occurring right in front of us!

A member of media personnel team came and got us at our seats around the eight minute mark in the third quarter. She walked us around the stadium to the media elevators and took us down to the floor level. It was cool to see the inside workings of the stadium that people wouldn’t always get to see. We exited near the opposing team elevators and came out to the stage where they do all of their promo games. The media lady gave us a brief rundown of what was going to happen and let my wife get behind the camera to take pictures. Before you know it I am up on this stage surrounded by “Big Red” and some Cardinals Cheerleaders and Promo personnel waving a big Sonic sign. The cameras finally turned off and I was handed a $100 Sonic Gift Card. Two people took us back up the elevators so that we could get back to our seats to enjoy the rest of the nail bitter.

Overall this was a great experience that I would strongly encourage Cardinals fans to sign up for. Not for the gift card, but for the chance to see a game and for the opportunity to see some of the “backstage” of University of Phoenix Stadium. Even if you already have season tickets like I did, maybe give those to a fan who doesn’t always get the chance to see a game while you get a new experience out of it. Obviously if sitting in my usual “lucky seat” didn’t matter since the Cardinals won, yours won’t either.
