Remember back in the preseason when the Arizona Cardinals felt so comfortable with Jay Feely as their kicker that they brought in Dan Carpenter?  Seems like ages ago doesn’t it?  Clearly the Cards made a great decision in retaining Feely and allowing Carpenter to move on and on and on.

Carpenter attempted one field goal attempt in the preseason for the Cards.  It was blocked and he was a cut a day later.  Since then it’s been all Feely.  Quietly he is having a fantastic season.  He’s done everything the Cards have asked and needed him for.

The Cards at times have struggled to get touchdowns and therefore need a reliable kicker.  Jay Feely is that guy.  So far he is 19-20 on field goals this season, with his longest being 52 yards.  It’s almost to the point where he is automatic.  He has thrown all that trouble he was having last season when he was very inconsistent.  Feely is also a perfect 20-20 on extra points.

It may come down to a field goal in week 17 to propel the Cards to the playoffs.  It has come down to the Cards kicker before.  Remember Chris Jacke in 1998?  Me too.  It is reassuring to know the Cards have a kicker they can rely on when the offense stalls.  It’s the little things.  It’s also a very big thing.
