Arizona Cardinals DC Bowles May Pass On Browns Meeting

Remember just a couple days ago when we were up in arms about Karlos Dansby being snubbed by the Pro Bowl? Ah, those were the good old days weren’t they?

Well, here we are. The aftermath of a winning 10-6 Arizona Cardinals season and nothing to show for it but a slew of empty lockers and a handful of memories. And now like some super charged racer that couldn’t break the checkered line the innards of the Cardinal beast have been thrown upon the heap pile, ripe for the scavengers and vultures to swoop in and take the juiciest, most succulent organs. Okay, maybe I’m being a bit hyperbolic. What else do you expect after my team performed better than two of the other playoff contenders in the league and yet are now currently lacing up their golf shoes?

Here’s the deal. The Cleveland Browns want our swami of defense Todd Bowles. Or at least they have requested a meeting with him. And they’re not the only ones. Word is the Lions and Vikings (no Bears, don’t ask me why) are also circling the cadaver. However, per a source (or at least a source of a source) old Todd may just turn down said Browns meeting. Nothing says “rats fleeing a sinking ship” more than one of those rats saying, “No thank you. I’d rather not get on that ship in the first place.”

Now, this isn’t the first time the Browns have come knocking on Daddy Bidwill’s door to see if our DC can come out to play. Last year after the Arizona Cardinals defense had an impressive showing (regardless of a 5-11 season) Cleveland came calling for then DC Ray Horton. He is currently Cleveland’s Defensive Coordinator but who knows how long that is going to last now that Cleveland’s HC Rob Chudzinkski, or “CHUD” as he’s affectionately referred to by fans of 1980’s B Movie horror films, has been fired.

So are we, the Feathered Faithful, in danger of losing our DC for a HC job in Cleveland? Maybe. But probably not. If the rumor about Bowles intentions to pass on the meeting are true that’s one thing but If you ask me the Browns are just using Bowles as a leverage piece for negotiating with whomever (Horton if they’re smart) they want for the job. Why do I think this? Because even though the Browns have a strong fanbase it is an increasingly frustrated one. And seeing as how “CHUD” had the job for one “sad trombone” season the only thing that could bring stability to such a franchise would be to go with someone, ANYONE, with a familiar face. And why not the one guy who did his job and did it well, Ray Horton?

Now, I’m not saying that Bowles won’t get hired somewhere else. He very may well. I’m just saying that as of yet, I’m not putting any stock in our big bird flying the coop.
