The Arizona Cardinals are already showing they mean business when it comes down to the tight end position.  Tuesday, they signed a couple of tight ends to future contracts.  They may not make the team but it is a sure sign the Cards want to address a position that has been one of the most inconsistent over the past several years.

They signed Brett Brackett and Andre Hardy.  Brackett has a little bit of preseason experience with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins.  He played at Penn State where he hauled in 56 receptions for 714 yards and seven touchdowns.  Hardy spent a very short time with the Oakland Raiders.

These aren’t the most exciting pickups in the world, however, it is exciting to me that the Cards have recognized a position that needs help.  I imagine over the next several months there will be a few more moves at the position and I’m not just talking about additions.  I think you’ll see subtractions from the current roster as well.  It is just my best guess but today’s moves tell me that they have to be thinking it.

The fact is tight end Rob Housler has been very inconsistent and has just one touchdown in his first three seasons.  He drops a lot of balls.  I’m not sure the Cards are convinced that Jake Ballard and Jim Dray are long term answers either, although I like what both contributed to the offense in 2013.
