It was a nice run Daryn Colledge.  It was reported this evening that the Arizona Cardinals plan on releasing the offensive lineman as early as the beginning of the week to make cap room.  The move makes sense for both parties but it doesn’t mean it has to be well liked.

Colledge, who came over in free agency a couple of years ago from Green Bay, is getting older and his release will free roughly $4.5 million in cap space.  Even Colledge acknowledged the move made sense given the want to get younger.  Colledge is 32.

I like what he did for the Cards.  He not only was a decent offensive lineman during his time here, you could always sense he had his quarterbacks back.  In a tweet back in 2012 when Kevin Kolb was the quarterback, Colledge tweeted on a flight back after a road loss that Kolb was sitting next to him and he’d answer any questions on Twitter for Kolb, as he didn’t need the distraction.  Kolb has his own Twitter feed.

He converses with fans often on Twitter.  Guys like that don’t come around too often.  So, in that sense, the moves hurts but he and fans alike all know it is for the better of the organization.  I’m glad the Cards are making the move know to give him plenty of time to hook on with someone else.  I think he still has gas left in the tank.  Thank you for all you did Mr. Colledge.
