I had a feeling when the Arizona Cardinals waived him, someone would take a flyer on wide receiver Walt Powell. Well, someone did and that someone is the New York Jets. Per his agents, Powell is headed to New York.
It is too bad Powell, the Cards sixth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, didn’t clear waivers. I would have liked the Cards to have added him back to their practice squad. As I said a couple of times yesterday though, those are the risks you take.
Powell, who initially appeared on the 53-man roster after roster cuts on Saturday, was waived on Sunday in order to make room for linebacker Thomas Keiser, who had just been released by the San Diego Chargers. Powell was fighting with Brittan Golden for the final receiver spot on the roster. Golden was signed to the Cards practice squad on Sunday afternoon. Powell had six catches for 106 yards in the preseason. Good luck to him in New York.
