The Arizona Cardinals made a second signing to the practice squad on Tuesday.  They added running back Chris Rainey to the team.  The need to add a running back to the squad was there due to the injury to running back Dominique Williams.

You might remember Rainey from his days at the University of Florida.  You also might remember Rainey was with the Indianapolis Colts at the beginning of training camp and further more as a Pittsburgh Steeler in his 2012 rookie season. He was released early in camp by the Colts on July 28th. All Colts coach Chuck Pagano would say was he violated a team rule.  Deadspin got a copy of the possible reason when they found a tweet he sent out during the Colts preseason game against the New York Jets.  Rainey had said he was playing with a fire extinguisher with a teammate.

Rainey put out the following tweet saying he wasn’t the only one at fault in the matter.

Clearly he felt he was wronged.  Just a couple of days earlier, coach Pagano had given indication Rainey might make the Colts roster.  Whatever happened, I hope Rainey has learned from it.  Cards coach Bruce Arians, who has a friendship with Pagano, may have gotten a good report about Rainey that helped him get a practice squad spot. Of course Arians also coached with the Steelers.

Speaking of, Rainey was also released by the Steelers at the end of the 2012 season for alleged domestic violence, which is interesting considering the topic getting a lot of press the last couple of days.  We’ll see how long he lasts.  The Cards have been using a continuous revolving door since camp ended.  It is interesting the Cards have decided to add a player of his character.  Right now it’s just the practice squad but you never know.
