The NFL has a new drug policy.  For Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington, this means nothing.  He received a one-year suspension for fourth failed drug test.  Unlike Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon, Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker, and Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Orlando Scandrick who all received reductions in their suspensions, Washington will not.

Welker and Scandrick are able to return to their teams today.  Gordon saw his one-year suspension reduced to 10 games.  There are no specifics as to how Washington’s situation is different, however that is what is being reported.

There is also the issue of domestic violence for Washington as well, stemming from his 2013 arrest for abusing his ex-girlfriend.  He has already been sentenced for that crime but the NFL has not dealt with it yet.  Personally, I don’t think he should or will ever play for the Cardinals again.  I know there are fans on both sides of that issue but after what has happened with Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson, I doubt the NFL handles Washington lightly.  My guess is he will be suspended six games and the Cards will let him go.
