There a number of outlets reporting this evening that the Super Bowl XLIX  halftime performer in Arizona will be none other than Katy Perry.  If reports are true, it is an interesting choice.  Very interesting.

Perry as recently as last week blasted the idea of the NFL making performers pay to play at the Super Bowl.  It was rumored a couple of months ago that the NFL was asking several artists, including Perry, if they would pay to play.  I think it is an awful idea but the NFL does not disclose the terms of contracts or negotiations.  We may never know if Perry is forced to pay or not.

Of course then you have the other factor, whether Perry is worthy of such a big stage honor?  Personally, I think as far as popularity goes, the NFL is nailing it.  There are few acts as popular as she is currently.  However she is not a very good live act.  I’ve not been to a live concert of hers however I have heard her perform live several times and each performance has been awful.  Plain awful.  Her recorded albums are good.

I do like listening to her recorded stuff but I am fairly certain the performance itself will not be very memorable.  It is what it is though.  Every year we all debate who would be better.  We all have our favorites and you’ll never please everyone.  So be it.  I just wish they would have gotten a better live act for the game in Arizona.  Oh well, there is still a decent chance the Arizona Cardinals will be there to play and if they are, I don’t really care who plays at halftime.
