Arizona Cardinals Winning the Turnover Game

The old saying goes that if you win the turnover ratio in the NFL, you are usually a winning team.  It’s not always that way but with the 2014 Arizona Cardinals it a a huge reason why they sit at 4-1 and in first place in the NFC West.

Through the first six games the Cards are third in the NFL in turnover ratio with a +8.  They have 11 takeaways and just three giveaways.  They have yet to be intercepted this season, despite using all three of their quarterbacks.

Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton, and Logan Thomas have combined to throw zero interceptions.  They are the only team in the NFL to have not thrown an interception through week six.  Other teams sure have had their opportunities to grab an interception, including Brian Orakpo in yesterday’s 30-20 victory over the Washington Redskins.

The Cards looks like for awhile on Sunday they’d stay at +4 but they managed to get four takeaways in the fourth quarter alone on Sunday.  Of the 11 takeaways, eight of them are interceptions.  They had three interceptions on Sunday, two of them by Rashad Johnson.

What’s amazing about the interceptions is that none of them are by guys names Patrick Peterson and Antonio Cromartie.  Nope, neither of them have a pick yet.  Jerraud Powers leads the team with three interceptions.  Johnson got his first two of the season on Sunday and ran one of them back for a touchdown.  The other three interceptions are by linebackers Sam Acho and Larry Foote and defensive end Calais Campbell.

It’s a team effort all around.  If the Cards continue this type of production in the give and take department, no doubt the Cards should continue the level of success they are currently experiencing.
