The Arizona Cardinals are at 5-1 for the first time in 38 years after defeating the Oakland Raiders 24-13 on Sunday

It was 1976.  A lot has changed in life since the last time the Arizona Cardinals started a season 5-1.  It was the United States Bi-Centennial birthday.  The team was still 12 years from moving to Arizona from St. Louis.

After victories over the San Diego Chargers, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Oakland Raiders combined with the one loss at the Denver Broncos the Cards sit atop the NFC West with the 5-1 record.  Even the loss was a close game entering the fourth quarter.

Just an idea of what was taking place this week of October 1976:

The number one hit on the Billboard charts was Disco Duck by Rick Dees and His Cast of Idiots

That certainly will take some people back.  Did you know that the number one television show in the 1976 season was Happy Days?

A long time.  I think you get the message.  This doesn’t happen very often with the Cardinals but they have a great chance now to run with this and keep doing it year after year under coach Bruce Arians.

They have young players who could be great for a long time.  Receivers Michael Floyd, John Brown, Jaron Brown and running backs Andre Ellington and Stepfan Taylor.  All of them are in year three or less.  Even the defense is promising with cornerbacks Patrick Peterson, Justin Bethel, Jerraud Powers, and Rashad Johnson.

The point is here, yes it has been awhile and something Cards fans in Arizona have never seen before.  However, the Cards are setting the table for what should be the standard for the future.
