Known to have problems covering tight ends, the task for the Arizona Cardinals doesn’t get easier against the Philadelphia Eagles

The Arizona Cardinals have had a lot of issues covering tight ends over the past couple of seasons.  This week they face a couple of good ones on the Philadelphia Eagles roster.

More from Cardinals News

Eagles tight ends Zach Ertz and Brent Celek are a very nice one-two punch on the ends.  Ertz has been targeted 30 times this season by quarterback Nick Foles.  He has 19 receptions for 306 yards and two touchdowns.  He has seven receptions of at least 20 yards.

Celek has been targeted 19 times this season so far.  He has 10 receptions but for just 75 yards.  He has not scored a touchdown yet and has had just one reception over 20 yards.

It is clear the Eagles are using Ertz in big plays or plays where the Eagles need to get a chunk of yardage.  Celek appears to be their short range tight end so far this season. They also have a third tight end in James Casey.  He has two receptions this season, one for a touchdown.

The Cards got beat by Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas.  They got lucky and missed San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis due to injury.  Ertz is a threat and the Cards need to be looking for the Eagles to try and hit him on big plays.
