The Arizona Cardinals opened rookie camp on Friday with draft picks and undrafted free agents

Back to the playing field.  The Arizona Cardinals opened up their three-day mini-camp for rookies on Friday at their headquarters in Tempe.  Unlike the Jacksonville Jaguars, they came off the field without injury.

Included in the mix was of course first-round draft pick, offensive lineman D.J. Humphries.  Humphries is making a bit of a transition in his rookie season from left tackle to right tackle.  Jared Veldheer already has the left tackle position locked up.

Many people this week have been talking about defensive end Rodney Gunter from Deleware State.  Some have touted him as a steal in the 2015 NFL Draft.  It was tough even finding a picture of him last week.  Also out to prove himself is outside linebacker Shaquille Riddick.  He wasn’t invited to the combine and had to rely on a pro day to get NFL scouts to look at him further.  He was selected in the fifth-round out of West Virginia.

The Cardinals will be back on the field on Saturday and complete camp on Sunday.  Several of the players invited here this weekend are here on a tryout basis only so for some, they won’t be back after Sunday, so don’t get too attached to them.

One neat story from the undrafted free agents who came in is about Shippensburg receiver Trevor Harman.  He wasn’t someone just plucked out of nowhere.  He happens to know people in high places.

Pretty cool huh?  Arians always has something up his sleeve but he also wears his heart there too.  I don’t know where that will lead with him but still a nice story.
