Player profile of S D.J.Campbell as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with S D.J. Campbell.  Campbell enters his third NFL season.  He last played in the NFL in 2013 with the Miami Dolphins.

2014 season: Campbell did not play during the 2014 regular season.  Campbell was with the San Francisco 49ers last year and was cut late in training camp.  His last regular season action was in 2013 after spending the 2012 season with the team that drafted him, the Carolina Panthers.

2015 season projection: Campbell is stuck on the depth chart behind Tony Jefferson and Deone Bucannon at strong safety, so making the roster could prove to be a difficult task for Campbell depending on how many safeties the Cardinals want to keep.  He won’t beat out either Jefferson or Bucannon.  He could be another player in camp just to get other eyes on him in the preseason.

Campbell is a hard hitter no doubt, something Cardinals safeties have been known for.  His nine games of experience might put him over the top of some but it won’t best Jefferson and even the second-year Bucannon.  The University of California product considers himself an Atlanta Braves fan.  Right there I know he just can’t fit in.  All kidding aside, don’t get used to the idea of Campbell on the final roster.
