Player profile of CB Alfonzo Dennard as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with CB Alfonzo Dennard.  Dennard joins the Cardinals after spending last season as a member of the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.

2014 season: Dennard only played in six games, starting four for the Patriots last season.  He had 15 tackles with one interception and one fumble recovery.  He became a victim of a numbers game in the defensive backfield and was waived in May 2015.

2015 season projection: The Cardinals needed to add depth to the position and Dennard does provide that.  He looks to be backup at this point but if he surprises in training camp you can’t rule him out being a starter.

He wasn’t expecting to be released by the Patriots and by all accounts there hadn’t been much talk that was going to happen.  Dennard does have some baggage that comes with him.  He spent time in jail for incidents in February and July of 2013.  He assaulted a police officer in February 2013 and then had a DUI in July 2013.  The DUI violated the terms of probation given to him from the prior incident.

The Cardinals must have done their homework on Dennard though if they brought in someone like that.  They must fell all of his legal troubles are behind him.  Best known for his two interceptions in the 2013 playoffs in January 2014 against Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck after returning a interception for an 87-yard touchdown two months earlier against him in November 2013.
