Player profile of G Mike Iupati as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with G Mike Iupati.  Iupati joins the Cardinals after five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

2014 season: Mike Iupati played in his third consecutive Pro Bowl last season after starting all 15 regular season games he played in.  His Pro Bowl selection made hin only one of seven offensive linemen and just one of three guards to be selected for the Pro Bowl three consecutive seasons.

2015 season projection: Iupati immediately brings legitimacy to and Arizona Cardinals run game that desperately needs help.  Known as a prolific run blocker, Iupati will help open holes that haven’t been there in the past for guys like Andre Ellington, David Johnson, and Stepfan Taylor.

Iupati was one of the top free agents available this year according to NFL.com, so I think the Cardinals did well here.  Yes, he has issues with pass blocking and I think every Cardinals fan knows that by now.  However he can be considered an upgrade from Ted Larsen.  As far as the running game goes, remember this guy helped open holes for Frank Gore the last several years.  The Cardinals should see a great improvement in their run game thanks to Iupati.
