Player profile of DE Cory Redding as Arizona Cardinals training camp continues

As we have reached the end of the third week of Arizona Cardinals training camp, we continue our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with DE Cory Redding.  Redding comes to Arizona from the Indianapolis Colts.

2014 season: Redding played in all 16 games for the Colts last season, his 12th in the NFL. He had 35 tackles with 3.5 sacks.  He has 412 tackles and 35.5 sacks in his career.

2015 season projection: Redding was signed to be a backup to Calais Campbell and that’s where he currently sits on the depth chart.  However watch out for Josh Mauro.  Mauro played well in the preseason game against the San Diego Chargers.  Don’t be surprised to see Mauro push Redding for playing time.

Redding is good and the thought was he could come in and take Tommy Kelly’s spot on the roster.  He is now going into his 13th NFL season, so his leadership will be important regardless if he is on the field or now.  It’s a young man’s game though and no doubt Redding will see competition for playing time as I said.

He has the experience though and you can’t replace experience.  If nothing else he can be a great mentor for the younger guys like Mauro.  You always have a need for a guy like that in your locker room.
