Arizona Cardinals: Weatherspoon and Johnson to play

The Arizona Cardinals will get a couple of their injured players back for Thursday night’s game at the Denver Broncos

Well, two out of three isn’t bad, I guess.  The Arizona Cardinals will get a couple of their injured players back in time for Thursday night’s game against the Denver Broncos.  The game is the preseason finale for both teams.

Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and running back Chris Johnson will return to the playing field and both will be seeing action with the Cardinals for the first time.  Weatherspooon has missed all of training camp.

It was disappointing to see that Weatherspoon couldn’t get healthy enough to play in one of the earlier preseason games.  You wonder what not playing until the last preseason game with your new team does to a player?  Weatherspoon will be one of the few projected starters to play Thursday.

The other player to return will be running back Chris Johnson.  Johnson, who signed two weeks ago, has not been able to play yet because of a hamstring injury.  Johnson was brought on ironically because of injury and depth concerns at the running back position.  It will be interesting to see how he performs as well.  Remember, both players will not be playing against the Broncos regulars, so anything exciting we see on Thursday night will be tempered with that in mind.

The one guy who won’t be playing on Thursday night is tight end Jermaine Gresham.  He still has not been cleared to play and now you have to wonder when or even if he will make it onto the field with the Cardinals?  The emergence of Ifeanyi Momah is going to make cuts at the tight end position very interesting on Friday or Saturday.

All three players bring a lot of experience with them but if they can’t get onto the field, what good is that to have?  My prediction?  At least one of these three players doesn’t make the final 53-man roster come Saturday.
