Arizona Cardinals: The return of Andre Ellington

We promise this time it’s true, Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington to play on Sunday

Last Friday I wrote how it was likely that running back Andre Ellington would play this past Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.  The Arizona Cardinals said barring something unforeseen, he would play.  Well, they must have not seen something because he didn’t play in the 24-22 loss.

Now comes word from both coach Bruce Arians and Ellington himself that he will be ready to go on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.  This of course begs the question, how do you get touches for the three headed monster of Ellington, Chris Johnson, and David Johnson.

I think they will find a way to get Ellington the ball more this week in the passing game and allow Chris Johnson to get his touches on the ground.  David Johnson played a lot like a rookie this past Sunday with a fumble on the opening kickoff and a dropped sure touchdown.  He did catch the only touchdown of the game though in the fourth quarter against the Rams.

Ellington has missed the last three games since getting injured on a non-contact play in week one against the New Orleans Saints.  This is the most confident I’ve heard anyone about his status, including from Ellington himself.  As far as I’m concerned the more weapons the better.

Interesting that Arians divulged that Ellington could have played.  Now, his absence was certainly not the reason they lost to the Rams.  The Cardinals were fine without him on offense but maybe having that extra weapon out there might have helped.  At least he gets to play this week and I will be excited to see him back on the field.
