The Arizona Cardinals have concluded mini-camp with next stop training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. The next stop is training camp on July 28th.

In this profile we look at defensive tackle Calais Campbell.  Campbell enters his ninth season with the Cardinals.

2015: Campbell’s production actually dropped off last season if you can believe that.  It did seem as if he was more active and aggressive.  His numbers just weren’t able to match his 2014 production.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians called Campbell out after the 2014 season to basically say CC needed to do a better job of getting the quarterback.  Campbell agreed.  They both knew he left a lot of sacks to be had out on the field.

After nine sacks in 2013 and seven in 2014, he finished with just five in 2015.  he also had three passes defensed.  He did end up with three more tackles in 2015 with 61 than the 58 he had the previous two seasons. His best week was in week 16 against the Green Bay Packers with 2.5 sacks.

2016: The pressure might be off to be the man on the defensive line.  Part of his lack of productivity last season, at least from a statistics standpoint was the fact he was surrounded with a better lineup.  This season it gets even better with the addition of Chandler Jones.

Campbell is still going to get after it this season.  He isn’t getting any younger though.  His window of high production may only be there for a few more seasons.  For now though, fans love what he brings to the table.  We just want to see more.
