The Arizona Cardinals have concluded mini-camp with next stop training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. The next stop is training camp on July 28th.

In this profile we look at quarterback Jake Coker.  He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason.

2015: Coker lead the Alabama Crimson Tide to a National Championship.  Coker threw for 3,110 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions.  He completed 66.9 percent of his passes last season.

2016: When Coker was signed as an undrafted free agent almost immediately after the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft, fans were excited.  Once Coker was passed over in the draft many people took to Twitter to mention Coker as a possibility for backup quarterback needs.

The Cardinals are still in search of their future quarterback once Carson Palmer hangs it up for good.  They are also certainly looking for some competition for their third quarterback spot going into this season.

Coker impressed in the rookie camp back in May and will carry his talents into training camp at the end of July.  Coker will be a real option for third quarterback.  He will not be here for a token look.

The Cardinals can’t be sold on Barkley yet.  With Barkley’s arm strength questioned, Coker will be given a chance to show what he can do and possibly take the third quarterback spot.

He won’t be given the spot and Barkley could still come out on top in the competition but we will need to especially watch first and last preseason games to get the best look at these two.  This will be a competition that will come down to the end of camp.
