Former Arizona Cardinal Darnell Dockett is set to announce his retirement Monday.

Darnell Dockett, one of the most entertaining Cardinals on and off the field is hanging up the pads tomorrow.

The retirement news came from Dockett himself and was later confirmed by Josh Weinfuss of ESPN:

Dockett spent 11 seasons with the Cardinals, but sat out the 2014 season recovering from a torn ACL. Cut by the Cardinals last seaon in training camp, Dockett signed with the San Francisco 49ers but was later cut at the end of preseason.

Drafted in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft, Dockett had 459 combined tackles, 12 fumble recoveries, 7 forced fumbles, 4 interceptions and 40.5 sacks in his playing career. His sack total is good for seventh all time in Cardinals franchise history.

Aside from his last season on injured reserve, Dockett was very durable for Arizona playing in 158 out of 160 games in his career. Dockett’s biggest highlight as a Cardinal was came in Super Bowl 43 when he tied the Super Bowl record with 3 sacks. Dockett was a three time Pro-Bowler and an All-Pro in 2009.

#90 was quite a character on the field as much as he was off the field. His fun exploits ranged from hitting on Katherine Webb, the now wife of Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron, on Twitter to purchasing a baby crocodile he named Nino.

One of Dockett’s best moments off the field came in Week 3 of the 2014 season when he gifted his Pro Bowl jersey to a fan who he saw was wearing his jersey while helping out a security guard who was being attacked by a fan.

Dockett is returning to the desert to sign a one day deal to retire as an Arizona Cardinal and will officially announce his retirement to tomorrow.

His inclusion in the Ring of Honor is a discussion for another day. For now, let’s congratulate Dockett on a great career and celebrate his time as one of the most iconic players in franchise history.
