The Arizona Cardinals are just a day away from opening training camp in Glendale

We continue our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now entering the final stages of the offseason before the start of training camp. Players report to training camp tomorrow in Glendale.

In this profile we look at tight end Jermaine Gresham. He enters his seventh season in the NFL out of Oklahoma.  This will be his second season with the Cardinals.

2015: Gresham in his first season with the Cardinals, signing as a free agent in the offseason from the Cincinnati Bengals, played in 15 games, starting 12 last season.  He was coming off a back injury from the 2014 season.

That being said, he was healthy enough to play most of the season.  He started a little slow with injury issues in training camp.  He finished with just 18 receptions for 223 yards and one touchdown.

2016: Needless to say Gresham didn’t have the kind of season many expected him to have.  It was thought he would come in and take control of the number one tight end spot immediately even given his injury from the previous season.

So now into 2016, Gresham was re-signed to another one-year contract to the surprise of some. Once again he will have to prove himself though to end up being a main target in this offense. Darren Fells looks to have the number one spot for now.

Gresham will need to improve his numbers from 2015 to even be in the conversation again next season.  There are others waiting in the wings to take his spot if need be, guys like Ifeanyi Momah, Gerald Christian, and Troy Niklas. If his camp and preseason don’t go well, don’t be surprised to see him on the outside looking in come September.
