The Arizona Cardinals will be without one of their hard hitters until the regular season

A lingering issue will usually, well, linger.  For Arizona Cardinals linebacker Deone Bucannon, an injury he suffered in 2016 has done just that.  Now, it likely will cost him his preseason.

The four-year linebacker recently had surgery on his ankle it was discovered on Tuesday.  Reports are he will not be back until the regular season.

According to azcardinals.com, coach Bruce Arians hopes he will be back by the time the Cardinals open the season in Detroit on September 10th.  Of course that could end up being more of a optimistic view.

So this begs the question, how long has it been bad enough to warrant a surgical procedure that will knock him off his feet for approximately four months?  If has been lingering, how long was surgery on the table as an option?

Hopefully this doesn’t derail any of Bucannon’s season.  I just hope he didn’t pass up an opportunity to clear this up sooner so he could participate in training camp.

What is done is done though.  At least the decision was made now and not later into summer.  These players are tough and they want to avoid surgery if they can.  I get it.

However sometimes players can wait a long time to decide the inevitable and it not only sets back the player but it can the team as well.  For now, let’s just all hope that Bucannon will heal quickly.

The regular season is what is important here anyway.  Like Arians, I’ll continue to remain optimistic Bucannon will be ready to go in Detroit.

There is a reason though why the Cardinals load themselves up with depth at linebacker.  Missing a game or two wouldn’t hurt because of that depth.  Let’s all hope he doesn’t rush it and allow things to run its course.
