The Arizona Cardinals currently have six running backs on their roster

Surely when the regular season opens in September, the Arizona Cardinals will not have six running backs on their roster.  I’m not even sure they keep six on the roster through training camp.

The backs are lead of course by third-year back David Johnson.  After him, the depth chart becomes unclear.

There is fourth-year back Kerwynn Williams.  He botched some special teams play at the end of the 2016 season.  Will it be enough to cut they guy?  We’ll see. He’s still here.

The Cardinals drafted T.J. Logan and James Summers.  Logan could be involved in the return game. Don’t be surprised if one or both make the cut for the 53-man roster.

Then there is Elijhaa Penny.  He was the surprise of camp last season.  Some thought he was good enough to make the roster then.  He didn’t, but ended up on the practice squad.

Penny could break out and be the guy behind Johnson this season.  He could also be the new Stepfan Taylor, who is no longer with the team.

Both Logan and Summers are intriguing however.  Summers is tall at 6’3 while Logan stands at 5’10.

The other player listed as a running back is Andre Ellington.  The plan for him however is to convert him to a full-time receiver.  For now he is still listed at running back.

Is there a back who will be on the Cardinals roster come September that is not currently here? That is entirely possible and a possibility that some have brought up.  A team should always be looking to improve themselves.

I’m not sure who else is out there for the taking that the Cardinals would be interested in. However do not be surprised if the team does make another move or two at the position before too long.
