The Arizona Cardinals held their first day of camp practice at University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday

The Arizona Cardinals made it to the field for the first time as a team on Saturday with day one of training camp.  For the most part all went well.

There were a couple of injuries announced in head coach Bruce Arians morning press conference on day two of camp.  Two cornerbacks are having MRI’s on Sunday.

Cornerbacks Elie Bouka and Jumal Rolle are getting MRI’s today.  Bouka has an ankle injury and Rolle has a hamstring injury.

Cornerback Justin Bethel got some praise from Arians.  He said he looked good.  That is a far cry from his assessment of Bethel back in December when he called him a “failure in progress”.

Rookie safety Budda Baker didn’t impress much on the first day of practice.  Arians said he looked like a “damn rookie”, in his press conference.  Much of that can likely be attributed to the fact he missed a lot of practice time after being drafted due to finishing school.

Baker will get better with time but when you miss time, especially as a rookie, it will hurt.  Missing even one day can really set a young player back.  It is hard to catch up at that point.

Arians was also asked about quarterback Blaine Gabbert.  He told the media he thought he was way ahead of where he thought he would be at that point.  Now, what does that mean for his future?  Nothing other than the Cardinals are pleased with what they see so far.

Gabbert in practice is one thing.  The idea is Gabbert needs to be a much better player on gameday.  The fact that he is grabbing the Cardinals offense so far is a good sign though.

For now, we wait on the MRI’s and Sunday’s practice.  Practice time is from 2:00-4:30 at the stadium on Sunday afternoon.  If you are attending, please enter through gate 3 on the east side or through the team shop.  Doors open at 1:30.
