Who makes up the staff here at Raising Zona? Here is the current list of writers and editors on our team.

Scott Allen – Co-Editor – I am a native of Phoenix, married to Andrea w/one son, Brady. I have been a fan since day one in 1988. I had a job with the Cardinals during seasons two and three in Arizona as a ballboy during training camp in Flagstaff. I am an avid sports fan who loves all major sports teams in Phoenix. I was even married at an Arizona Diamondbacks game. I grew up on sports and got my love for football from my father, who played college ball at Northwestern University. I have a degree in journalism from the University of Arizona.

Brenton Johnson-Staff Writer-

I am a small town boy who grew up having an incredible passion for the three major sports (football, baseball and basketball), playing all three sports as a youth and played a little baseball in high school.  I also played a little baseball in college, although was not talented enough to make it in-between the lines professionally, so I always wanted to somehow stay involved outside the lines, so to speak.

Additionally, I have always had a passion to read just about everything that I could get my hands on, in the sports world. To me, there are not too many more enjoyable things than to read a very wonderful sports article (or book). After reading a good peace over the years, I often said to myself, I wish I could become a sport writer for my favorite team and thanks to our Co-editors Baily Deeter and Scott Allen, they are allowing me to do just that. So I must give a huge shout out to you both for the opportunity and to say thank you.

As a teenager, I was probably a bigger baseball fan than the other two sports. Although without question, over the years, I have come to the realization that (as far as I am concerned) there is no better form of sports entertainment than football (college and the NFL) and have become my biggest passion.  My favorite football team to follow is without question the Arizona Cardinals.  Although, growing up in Southern California, there is a special place in my heart for all southern California teams, including the Dodgers, Angels, UCLA and USC.  But not to worry Arizona fans, I love the Suns and D-backs as well as ASU.   How is this possible, you may ask?  Let’s put it this way, I grew up half way between SO CAL and Phoenix, on the Colorado River.  So I could not help but to follow both very closely.

Edgar Valenzuela Villezcas – Staff Writer: I’m a journalism student at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at ASU trying to pursue my dream of becoming a play by play commentator or a sports anchor for ESPN. I’m a die hard AZ Cardinals and Diamondbacks fan. While I root for the Knicks and Thunder, my favorite basketball team is of course the Suns.
