22nd Pick – Houston Texans (9-7)
Jared Goff – QB
California – Junior
6-4, 210 Pounds

The Houston Texans have been already quoted as a team that is going to be in the market for a franchise quarterback this off-season, and it’s quite possible that the Houston Texans had the worst quarterback situation in the NFL. I don’t want to take away from a pretty bad playoff defense, but realistically the quarterback (Brian Hoyer) put the Texans in pretty bad field position. The Texans are likely looking at another playoff opportunity, they need to desperatly fix the quarterback spot before they take a step forward in the hierarchy of the football world.

Jared Goff is generally known as the top quarterback in the draft because of his great body of work, seems to have route recognition and blitz schemes down because of his wealth of knowledge from playin in a pro-system, and has great accuracy on his throws. The reason, in my opinion, that Jared Goff is at the 22nd spot for the Texans, is because of “skinny” perception that the NFL has engulfed for him, and he isn’t running away from that until he puts on some real weight. He is a pro-ready quarterback, don’t get me wrong, but he does need some fine-tuning. When Goff gets hit, he sometimes starts to lose some accuracy because of the brace for the hit.

For those of us that thought that J.J. Watt could do it all by himself, sorry gents, he is only one starter of twenty-two spots. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean that the Texans can’t still beat up on the little guy (Titans mostly), but they aren’t going to have enough fire power or defensive stability to stop a perennial Super Bowl team like the Patriots, Broncos, or Chiefs. The Texans are in great position to also draft a linebacker to help out Brian Cushing, but I don’t think the Texans pass on a possible franchise centerpiece.
