3. Touchdown run against the San Francisco 49ers

In a game that featured injuries to the Cardinals’ top two running backs, Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington, Carson Palmer took the running game into his own hands. In a game that many expected to be a blowout win for the Cardinals, was actually a tug of war between the Cardinals’ offense and 49er defense. The Cardinal defense also had some trouble shutting down the 49er offense led by quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

For a majority of the fourth quarter, the Cardinals were neck and neck with the 49ers. However, in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Carson Palmer was leading the offense on what would end up being the game winning touchdown drive. With under 3 minutes to play, Palmer took the shotgun snap at the San Francisco 8 yard line. Facing a pass rush, Carson Palmer in Cam Newton fashion made a beeline sprint towards the end zone and beat several members of the 49ers secondary to the pylon.

The most noticeable highlight of this run was Palmer’s celebratory spike afterwards that resulted in him taking a tumble. The Cardinals would hold for a 19-13 win, ending their 5 game losing streak in San Francisco and also guaranteeing Arizona’s third straight winning season.
