Matt Forte, RB

Forte spent the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the Chicago Bears.  One might say the last thing the Cardinals need is another running back.  While on the surface, I concur, let’s also not forget the Cardinals are only 15 months removed from a dire running back situation because of injuries.

A lot depends on what the Cardinals decide on Chris Johnson and also Andre Ellington.  While I don’t foresee Ellington going anywhere soon, Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim a couple of weeks ago did say he was concerned about his durability.  Ellington has spent a good time on the sidelines over the past season and a half because of injury.

Forte on the other hand is the face of durability.  He’s missed just eight games in his career, playing a full 16 games five of those eight seasons.  He played and started in 13 games in 2015.  He still rushed for for 898 yards and had another 389 yards receiving.

As a receiver he is just as versatile as Ellington, Chris Johnson, and even David Johnson.  Forte just turned 30 in December.  Chris Johnson is about three months older, turning 30 in September.  So I ask, if Johnson doesn’t return, why not look at Forte?  The Patriots and the Oakland Raiders though have been linked to his services.  He’d fit in well in both places.
