Arizona Cardinals preseason depth chart
By Scott Allen
1. Mike Iupati
Iupati joined the Cardinals in the offseason last year, being rated as the overall fourth-best free agent available in 2015. He did start out a little slow.
He spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and was expected to be an immediate help to the run game with his blocking. He played in 13 of the 16 games last season.
He was taken off the field against the Seattle Seahawks by ambulance but was alright and back in the locker room by game’s end.
Once again in 2016 he will be the catalyst to blocking and creating holes for the running backs. His pass blocking still needs work but it certainly is far from the worst in the NFL. Like Vendheer, look for Iupati to start every game unless an injury occurs.
2. Earl Watford
Watford enters his fourth season in the NFL from James Madison. Since starting his career after being drafted in 2013 by the Cardinals, Watford has played in just 18 games, starting two of them.
While the competition is tough, Watford is a depth guy. He won’t always blow you away but does enough to keep fans happy. He’s not the biggest guy out there but he certainly knows the system and should provide quality backup to Iupati this season.
